Everyday we have 24 hours at our disposal to achieve all we have in mind. But most of the times we lose the battle with time for different reasons which disturb our entire schedule and implicitly our plan of achieving our objectives.

Today we say we don’t have time, tomorrow this excuse will be replaced by another and so this cycle can repeat itself infinitely until the consequences of not fulfilling our tasks will redirect their selves upon us.

1. The first step in time management training is to identify the causes which block your control of time. Perhaps your activities don’t have a well defined place in time because you always postpone some things to do them in your spare time. Perhaps you have chosen a wrong moment, or your task is very difficult or complex, or you are often interrupted by your colleagues or simply you are not the right person for the job. In order to achieve a solid base for a future strategy of efficiency in time management training you must have a sincere talk to yourself so you can discover your priorities.

2. Once the causes have been identified, the next step is to analyze the phase in which you have to be aware of your own relationship with time and to answer 3 essential questions:

- What works and what doesn’t?

- Which are my preferences in time management?

- Which are my cycles and my sources of energy?

Every person is different in their abilities and preferences, and that is why each of us should analyze carefully the relationship with time, avoiding referring oneself to other persons.

3. The next step is to elaborate a plan of attack, a strategy meant to keep us focused on what we want to achieve. This strategy should imperatively have a purpose and clearly defined objectives, based on our own values. These objectives must reflect what you really want, must be well defined in time and space and must be closed to reality. The strategy should also contain the ways of avoiding and discarding all the causes that can influence and disturb good time management training, such as “time thieves”: from the phone which keeps ringing to the endless and much disorganized meetings, unclear priorities, internet, and television to the impossibility of saying NO. It’s very important that you have a planned daily routine. Your personal time manager should be a well made to-do list.
